The IEA global community is hard at work organising many exciting events, including conferences and webinars, in 2025. Keep up to date with the latest events and news to ensure that your 2025 is filled with all things HFE. In this edition, the ‘Announcements’ section includes some interesting global HFE updates, including an exciting update for IEA2027. The “Upcoming Events” section includes information on several exciting HFE events taking place in 2025 and 2026. In the Spotlight on IEA Technical Committees feature, we showcase the Slips, Trips and Falls Technical Committee and the important work they are doing to apply HFE principles, tools and methods to improve safety and reduce injury risk due to slips, trips and falls. As always, we appreciate the ongoing support and commitment of the global IEA community to share updates that will be of interest to our community. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Exciting news about IEA2027!

The Chartered Institute Ergonomics and Human Factors is excited to share the venue for IEA2027 in London. The next IEA Congress will take place at Excel London from the 23^rd to the 25^th of August 2027. Further announcements and information will be published on the IEA2027 website which will be set up in the coming days.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone to London for this event!

IEA Presidents visit to Cali, Columbia

The IEA President visited Cali, Colombia from 15-19 September 2025 to take part in the “XXVII Simposio International de Investigaciones en Salud” (the university’s annual international health symposium) and the “III Encuentro Internacional de Ergonomía y Salud” (doctoral programme in ergonomics) at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. In addition to a presentation on the opening day of the international health symposium, Andrew gave two symposia presentations to the first-year doctoral students and was also one of the reviewers for their PhD proposal presentations. The IEA helped set up the doctoral programme in ergonomics at the Universidad del Valle which is the only doctoral programme in ergonomics for Latin America. It was truly special to help develop the next generation of HFE professors.

While in Cali the Sociedad Colombiana de Ergonomia invited the IEA president to give a presentation at the Imbanaco private hospital in Cali. Imbanaco is looking at integrating HFE into their wellness offerings to employees, so this was a wonderful opportunity to explain the benefits of HFE. Two representatives from the insurance company, SURA, also attended the session. SURA is one of the sustaining members of the IEA.

New Events Calendar on IEA.cc website

Following a request from the Communications and Public Relations (CPR) standing committee, IEA's Information and Computer Technology (ICT) director coordinated the addition of a new graphical Events Calendar. To find this Calendar select the "Events" menu at the top of the home page (see screenshot 1 below). Choose the final menu option: "Events calendar" (see screenshot 2 below). See upcoming events, organized by month starting with the current month, and classified by type (webinar, endorsed conference). All events endorsed or organized by the IEA are visible for the 12 months to come. Select the "show more events" to see additional events for the month in question.

We are excited about this website enhancement to communicate timely content about upcoming IEA supported activities.

Quora group page for Building and Construction technical committee

It is set up to recruit some new members and connect with existing, share information and advertise events.

Call for Book Chapter Submissions on Human-AI Team Testbeds, Metrics, and Concepts

A group of researchers (Erin Chiou, Douglas Lange, Jason Wong, and Julie Marble) are currently seeking book chapter submissions for an edited volume to be published with CRC Press. Chapter submissions should describe the work of designing, building, implementing, or evaluating a human-AI team testbed, metric, or concept. Manuscript submissions from authors based in countries outside of the U.S. are especially encouraged and may be granted extensions to the planned submission deadlines depending on chapter fit. Preparations for 2025 Council meeting in Beijing

Reports from all IEA member societies and Executive Committee members are now being collected in advance of the 28-29 October Council meeting in Beijing. Reports and the meeting agenda will be made available to Council attendees 4 weeks before the meeting. Those unable to attend may vote by Proxy according to IEA operating procedures.

These reports will be shared with Council members, and their content will update that section of the IEA.cc website. Watch for this annual summary of the exciting activities occurring in Human Factors and Ergonomics Societies around the World.

We are keen to share your content that aligns with the IEA’s mission and values. Suitable content includes:

2. What works?

·     LinkedIn: Professional and informative tone. Can include links, images, and short videos.

·  Instagram: Visually appealing, engaging, and concise. Use high-quality images or short videos.

3. Writing Captions

·      Keep it clear and engaging.

·      Avoid jargon – make it accessible to a broad audience.

·      Include relevant hashtags (e.g., #HumanFactors #Ergonomics #IEA).

·      Mention any relevant individuals or organizations if applicable.

4. Pictures paint a thousand words

·      Images: High resolution (minimum 1080x1080 pixels). No excessive text on images.

·      Videos: Under 60 seconds for Instagram. Include subtitles if possible.

·      Links: Ensure links are functional and relevant.

5. Send to us to share

·      Send posts to cpr@iea.cc at least 5 days in advance.

·      Include your name and contact information in case we need clarifications.

·      Indicate preferred posting date (subject to approval).

·  For any posts that you create, tag the IEA accounts on LinkedIn and Instagram (@IEA handle).

·     We will monitor and consider relevant posts for reposting.

7. Distribution & Promotion

The IEA team reserves the right to edit or modify content for clarity, alignment, and engagement.

Navigating the FRAM: The latest book on the Functional Resonance Analysis Method, Webinar series on Resilience Engineering. 14 October 2025, 14h00 UTC

Human Factors in Robotics Webinar Series, 28 October 2025, 11h00 UTC

Join the Technical Committee (TC) Human Factors in Robotics for a webinar focusing on the critical and rapidly evolving domain of Industrial Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). This session will explore the latest advancements in robotic systems transforming industrial applications worldwide. From manufacturing floors to logistics hubs, robots are increasingly integral to modern industry. We will dive into the current state of task automation, examining which industrial tasks are already being efficiently automated by advanced robotic systems and which challenges arise for planning and designing these work systems. Looking ahead, this webinar will raise critical questions about the future of task automation in industrial settings. We will discuss emerging trends such as AI-based robotic systems and innovative HRI in relation to a human-centered workplace design. Informal Work in Latin America: Ergonomics Perspectives and Experiences from Brazil, Informal Work Webinar Series. 29 October 2025, 16h00 UTC

This webinar, organized by the IEA Informal Work TC and the ICOH Working Group on "Demographic Changes, Inequalities and the Future of Decent Work" in collaboration with the School of Public Health of the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of São Carlos will present an overview of informal work in Brazil with an emphasis on the impacts of technological and organizational innovations in the precariousness of working conditions. The dynamics of precariousness and how informality repositions the place of work in society will also be addressed.

Symposium of the Resilience Engineering Association and Annual Resilient Health Care Society Meeting: 20-24 October 2025, Canela, Brazil

This conference aims at advancing the knowledge of Resilience Engineering in complex sociotechnical systems such as healthcare, oil and gas, software engineering, and others. The theme will be Collaboration Across Boundaries for Adaptation in the Era of Climate Change. The conference will be held in the city of Canela, Brazil, from the 20^th to the 24^th of October 2025. Canela is a cozy town in the Guacho Highlands in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and is a traditional venue to large and small conferences.

XXV Brazilian Congress of Ergonomics and Human Factors, IX International Congress of Ergonomics and Human Factors & BRICS Plus Ergonomics and Human Factors Network Meeting: 4-7 November 2025, Ceara, Brazil

The Brazilian Association of Ergonomics and Human Factors (ABERGO) and the Latin American Union of Ergonomics (ULAERGO) are organizing a Human Factors and Ergonomics congress in November 2025 with the theme ‘Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovations: challenges for ergonomics and human factors’. This event will take place from the 4^th to the 7^th of November at the Events Center/Business Factory in Iracema, Fortaleza in Caera, Brazil, hosted by the Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. HFESA Annual Conference: Human Factors in a Complex System, 1 – 3 December 2025, Launceston, Tasmania

The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia is hosting their annual conference in Launceston from 1 to 3 December 2025.

This year’s theme, ‘Human Factors and Complexity Systems’, will explore how contemporary methods help solve real-world, complex problems. The conference will highlight strategies for identifying, managing, and mitigating hazards in complex environments while evaluating the effectiveness of innovative solutions.

HFESA 2025 will bring together world leaders, emerging scientists, practitioners, and strategists across disciplines, including human-centred design, safety science, engineering, psychology, occupational health, environmental design, technology development, and more.

The 15^th International Symposium on Human Factors/Ergonomics in Organizational Design and Management (ODAM), 8 – 10 June, 2026, University of Connecticut

The 15th International Symposium on Human Factors/Ergonomics in Organizational Design and Management (ODAM), sponsored by the IEA Organizational Design and Management Technical Committee and the HFES Macroergonomics Technical Group, will take place from June 8–10, 2026, at the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus. The conference theme is "Innovating for the Future: Human-Centered Organizational Design in the Age of Emerging Technologies and Evolving Work." Call for Submissions is open! The first call for submissions has been extended to 31 October  2025!

The ODAM meetings bring together researchers and practitioners from around the globe. SPOTLIGHT ON IEA TECHNICAL COMMITTEES (TC)

After featuring the Gender and Work TC in our previous issue, in this edition, we turn our focus to the Slips, Trips and Falls TC. The Slips, Trips, and Falls TC was formed as a platform to exchange up to date information on and facilitate discussions relating to the slips, trips and falls research field. The Slips, Trips, and Falls TC focuses on understanding and using human factors and ergonomics approaches to understand and reduce the risk of injury due to slips, trips and falls.

Objectives of the Slips, Trips and Falls TC

The objectives of the Slips, Trips and Falls TC are:

·  To facilitate communication among members around the world

· To help organize international slips, trips and falls symposia at major international conferences

· To help coordinate activities among regional organizations and individuals

· To promote collaboration among members and organizations

The IEA Technical Committees (TCs) are seeking to expand their membership and invite new members from federated societies. To facilitate this, we have created a sign-up form that provides an overview of the role of Technical Committees, including their four primary functions. By completing the form, you can express your interest in joining up to two TCs. Once submitted, TC administrators will review your submission and reach out for further details.
